Research Topic

Wire Electrochemical Machining Wire electrochemical machining (Wire ECM) is an anodic dissolution process in which metal removal takes place atom by atom from the anode (i.e. workpiece). Very thin wires can be used as a cathode (i.e. tool) because of absence of direct contact between tool and the workpiece hence almost no mechanical cutting force and minimal heat generation. Wire ECM is an advancement in this domain for improvement in machining proficiencies to machine high aspect ratio micro-features and miniaturized parts. Lately, optimization of Wire ECM capabilities has been reported for enhancing sludge removal through axial electrolyte flow, using travelling wire electrode, vibration assisted wire electrode, use of carbon fiber electrode and providing ultra-short pulsed current supply.
