Lawn Tennis, a modern game, traces its origins back to the cobbled streets of Birmingham, England, during the 19th century. Since its inception, this elegant and dynamic game has transcended time and geography, captivating enthusiasts around the globe with its blend of strategy, finesse, and athleticism. Facilities: IIT Kanpur has six well-laid and well-lit synthetic tennis courts between Halls of Residence 1 and 5. They are open from 6 am to 12 pm and 4 pm to 9pm on all days except Institute holidays. Students who are interested in playing but do not have balls or non-marking shoes of their own can get the same issued using Institute ID card.

Training and Coaching: IIT Kanpur encourages students to participate in various sports, including tennis, by providing coaching and training opportunities. The institute has experienced coaches and trainers who guide students at different skill levels, from beginners to advanced players.
