The Chess Club is a dynamic student organization with a primary mission: to popularize chess among the campus residents. While it certainly welcomes seasoned chess players, the club has an inclusive approach, extending its embrace to beginners as well.
At the heart of the Chess Club's activities is its commitment to fostering a love for chess among the IIT Kanpur community. The club serves as a hub where individuals of varying skill levels can come together to explore, learn, and enjoy this ancient game of strategy.
At IIT Kanpur, chess enthusiasts regularly engage in a variety of activities at the club. These activities include playing chess in various formats such as Blitz, Bullet, Rapid, and Long games. Additionally, club members participate in training sessions led by senior IITK students, engage in puzzle-solving sessions, analyze opening and endgame strategies, and undergo tactical training.
The club also takes the initiative to organize workshops on chess, featuring professional players with established ratings. In addition to these activities, the Chess Club at IIT Kanpur hosts a range of chess tournaments, including events like the fresher's tournament, anti-chess tournaments, puzzle-solving tournaments, and selection rounds for various inter-college level sports festivals such as InterIIT and Udghosh.
