Introduction. Material behavior of idealized bodies, mathematical preliminaries, tensor analysis, partial derivatives, etc. Analysis of stress and strain measures. Laws of conservation, eqn. of motion, conservation of energy. Thermodynamic and mechanical equilibrium. Constitutive laws : viscoelastic materials.
